My Journey in Photography: Young Girl Admiring a Blooming Tree

Young girl admiring the beauty of a blooming tree in Colombia.

I am grateful for the beauty that surrounds us. Amid the daily monotony of life, it's easy to overlook the quiet wonders woven into our existence. But beauty - subtle, fleeting, and profound - is always present. Photography has the power to sharpen our vision and to make us pause and reflect. This art form became my way of capturing the charm in the unnoticed, a way to document not just places but also emotions, perspectives, and the essence of being present.

My love for uncovering beauty in the ordinary began in childhood, inspired by my father's unique way of seeing the world. He would often remind me to pay attention to the little things - the overlooked details of life - because it's in those quiet, ordinary moments that the richest stories unfold. That perspective shaped my vision and ignited my passion for capturing images that speak without words. This space is an extension of that passion, where I explore through photography and writing how images reveal deeper truths about the world, ourselves, and what truly matters.

My father was a dedicated photographer with an eye for capturing fleeting moments of quiet elegance. One of his most striking images, Urban Elegy (1963), now featured in my book, THE JOY OF JUST BEING: BEAUTY IN THE ORDINARY, is a testament to his skill and artistry. The element and style of his black-and-white image, a frozen whisper of a bygone era, echoes through my work. Including his photograph is my way of honoring the man who documented life so beautifully and shaped how I see the world.

Photography is more than just an art form. It is a way of being present, of finding joy in the simple and the unexpected. Through the grandeur of landscapes, the fleeting expressions of strangers on the street, or the quiet poetry of light and shadow, I seek to capture what is seen and, more importantly, what is felt.

This blog will be a space where I share my journey and insights into my creative process, the stories behind my photographs, and reflections on the ordinary we often overlook. I invite you to join me, to pause and notice, and to bring your interpretation, adding more layers to the collective journey.
